The heat is on your unemployed at no fault of your own. You've just received that cobra benefit form in the mail. Yea, right unless your dying or rich who is going to pay those high deductibles. I don't know about you, but I certainly will not. The sad thing is companies know this that's what they bank on. When I think of Cobra, I think those selfish sarcastic smurfs. Here you are jobless and filled with blue sorrow only to be hit with more jokes. I have two words that come to mind when i think of Cobra Insurance"Not Funny". Here are a few ideas of what you can do to seek healthcare benefits that may be a little more affordable.
Contact your local clinics and hospitals to see, what programs are available. Some hospital and clinics have reduced prices and clinics have reduced prices. They may require proof of income at the time of appointment. After researching i found out there is one called sliding scale in my area of nc. The approved hospital visits are $50.00 copays & no copays at approved hospitals and clinic visits. Also, there may be a small copay on the pharmacy medications, this can be as little as $3 or $10, which is nothing compared to a $150 prescription.
There are also healthcare prescription discount plans. These plans provide a discount up to 40% off for a low monthly fee. Although, this sounds good you must ask up front of restrictions. If your someone who has a monthly prescription of $300 and only get 10% off with plan this may not be for you. Although, if you rarely have prescriptions this may be a good alternative to no insurance at all. Therefore paying a low monthly fee for limited insurance may be benefical.
